John Tassey learned art from his father, an architect in Savannah, as well as studying at schools in England and the US. Since then, however, he has been mostly self-taught.
He loves the outdoors and has spent many, many hours in the woods or on rivers, fishing, or just enjoying looking at nature.
His favorite subjects are things he can see from his canoe or on walks through the woods or along the seashore. He also enjoys doing portraits of both people and animals.
John has experimented with several different media, but now works mostly in oils on linen because of the control and soft edges he can get with oils. He tries to create an impression of reality without being photo-realistic.
John paints full time and his work is in many private collections in the Southeast. John now lives and works on beautiful Amelia Island in Florida.
